âWhen drivers are caught and we show them a replay, they say âOh My God, I never knew the cameras were workingâ – Acting Traffic Chief By Romila Boodram Police have charged over 600 drivers for running red lights in and around the city for the year so far.Surprisingly, what many people are learning is that the drivers were nabbed after their âunlawful actâ was recorded on closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras which are located in the city, on the East Bank Demerara and certain parts on the East Coast Demerara.This was disclosed by Acting Traffic Chief, Superintendent Dion Moore, during an interview yesterday.He also explained that the cameras are being monitored by police on a daily basis at the National Intelligence Centre, located in the Castellani House compound.âThe persons, who are violators of intersections and junctions where cameras are placed, will not see the police when they are monitoring the cameras, but as long as they commit a breach, the police will know through our internal system, the acting Traffic Chief revealed.So far, 667 persons were arrested and placed before the court for breach of traffic light control in several areas.Superintendent Moore stated that once someone has been caught violating the traffic signals, the police will first try to locate that person and a replay of the footage will be played to them.âWhen drivers are caught, they say, âOh My God I never knew the cameras were working,Cheap NFL Jerseys,ââ Moore revealed.Kaieteur News understands that there are some 40 sites around the city with about three or four active cameras at each site.The cameras were erected to combat criminal activityMeanwhile, with respect to speeding, Moore urges drivers not to speed and also for those who are in vehicles driven by irresponsible users to speak out.âLeave early so that you can meet there early.
