One year ago, 42-year-old HIV Counsellor Seeraj Persaud (Sunny) of Lot 8 Hydronie, East Bank Essequibo, was found dead in his Parika, EBE office. According to an autopsy conducted on February 18, 2010, Sunny died as a result of strangulation.Kaieteur News understands that at the time of discovery, Sunny was found in a crouched position, with visible marks of violence on his neck. His laptop, cellular phone, wallet and keys were missing also.Sunny’s family and co-workers are still unsettled by his death especially because, as they said, he was very kind and helpful to his patients and friends. One nurse who worked along with Sunny said, “We really want to know why someone would want to kill him; we don’t see a reason.”Relatives who visited Kaieteur News yesterday said that it would seem that their complaints are forgotten and the process of investigation moving at a slow pace. They said, “It is now one year and the killer hasn’t been found.”The relatives also stated that they “are calling on police to work harder”. It is a truism that ‘every crime leaves evidence behind.’Last year on February 15, Linda Johnson, the facility’s health visitor, recalled that some time after lunch,Wholesale NFL Jerseys, she saw someone enter Persaud’s office but did not pay much attention to who it was.She said that two women, who had scheduled counselling sessions with Persaud, were sitting outside the office for some time and one of them eventually decided to knock on the closed door.Johnson explained that because of the confidentiality involved, Persaud’s door would always be closed during sessions. After knocking several times and getting no response, the woman decided to open the door and she saw Persaud on the floor.Officers at the Police Station, located in close proximity to the facility, were informed and they immediately began conducting investigations. The police found no weapon or blood in the room. |
