As part of its 20th anniversary celebrations the Roraima Group held a series of activities in the Santa Mission reservation over the weekend.Staff members on Friday, with help from the village council, hosted a movie night for families and children of the village on big screen. Then on Saturday, the staff along with villagers spent the entire day cleaning and painting the library. Two garbage drums were also donated to the school and the library.Staff members making a donation to the communityRoraima Airways owns and operate the Arrowpoint Nature Resort which is located in the Santa Aratak Reservation. It also adopted the Santa Mission primary school in 1996. Captain Gerry Gouveia conceptualized the building and established a community library in 1996 and it was completed in 1998.During a meeting on Saturday, a committee was established to manage the affairs of the library. The committee will manage the maintenance of the building and compound as well as arrange fund raisers for donations of books, computers and other related materials to promote and encourage the continuous use of the library by members of the community, as well as strengthen the relationship with the National library and other interested stakeholders both local and overseas.The committee comprises of six members including the village Captain,Adam Joseph Duhe Dolphins Jersey, a village councilor, the head of the village’s school and two senior managers of Roraima Airways, Ms. Diedre Davis (Human Resources Manager) and Michael Patterson (Tourism Manager).The committee will be chaired by the Human Resources Manager of Roraima Airways who will preside at the monthly meeting. |
