Police have detained a security guard employed by BEV Enterprisein connection with Friday’s $4.1M robbery at the fisheries complex.Kaieteur News understands that detectives took the guard into custody after they were told that he might be able to assist them with information about the daring daylight heist.A source said that the security staffer has been employed at the firm for at least a year.On Friday, three gunmen dressed as labourers in the employ of BEV Enterprise at Houston Estate, made off with the cash after barging into the company’s Accounts Office.Around 14:30 hrs, the company brought in the money to pay the temporary labourers, who are recruited to clean vessels brought into the dry docks.With more than 100 men milling about the compound the gunmen had no difficulty entering undetected.According to reports they mingled with the labourers and pounced soon after the money arrived on the location.Accountant Michael Vieira, 30, of Houston Estate,Cheap Jerseys Wholesale, Georgetown, and labourer, Richie Sahadeo, 35, of Better Hope South, East Coast Demerara, were in the Accountant’s Office at the time of the robbery.They relieved Sahadeo of $70,000.00 while Michael Vieira was robbed of $4.1 million.During the process Richie Sahadeo was beaten about his body and shot in his knee by one of the perpetrators.The bandits escaped in a waiting motor car.Sahadeo was admitted to a private hospital for medical treatment and later underwent surgery. |
