Kevin Singh appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates court yesterday to answer to five counts of embezzlement and seven counts of falsifying documents.Singh, who was 16-year-old at the time of the alleged crimes, between June and August while employed at the Deeds Registry Office in Georgetown, reportedly falsified accounts and embezzled money entrusted to him.The charge read that in June 2009 Singh, with intent to defraud made or concurred in altering receipts in a receipt book property of the Government of Guyana.According to the charge, four times on June 17, 2009, Singh altered cheques paid to the Registry for transactions conducted by R. Jackson, L. Hanoman, Hughes, Fields and attorney at law Poonai.That same month the defendant allegedly altered cheques paid by L. Hanoman from the amount $263,Cheap Hockey Jerseys,000 to $243,000.  Singh also allegedly changed a cheque amount paid by L. Hanoman from the amount of $106,000 to the amount $61,250.00.The five counts of embezzlement accused the former clerk of putting to his own use money entrusted to him by his employer.Thrice he embezzled $50,000 from the amount of $100,000; $25,000 from the amount $40,000 and $10,000 from the amount $48,000, the court heard.Singh allegedly put to his own use $20,000 from $265,000 and $45,000 from the amount $106,250 respectively. Singh also embezzled $48,000 from $150,000, money entrusted to him by his former employer, the court heard.The young man who is now 19 years old was represented by attorney at law Hookumchand. The lawyer expressed his disapproval towards senior persons employed at the Registry stating that he is annoyed they would entrust such a young person with the quantities of money.He added that his client was being pinned with the offence since the youngster had superiors he had to report to and was simply following instructions.It was noted that Singh and others had been detained. The young man had been placed on $25,000 station bail and had been cooperating with the police since 2009, making regular visits to the station and also lodged his passport.The man is expected back in court on October 27.
