– those guilty of stealing water will be jailedKey components of improving water and the quality of work produced by contractors are expected to be addressed when the Guyana Water Incorporated conducts its second contractors’ seminar, come next week at the Le Meridien Pegasus. The seminar is slated for Monday at the Savannah Suite.Chief Executive Officer for the Guyana Water Inc, Karan Singh, yesterday told the media that the “momentum is high and they are desperately trying to improve the quality of water.”Singh said that GWI is receiving funding from the Inter-American Development Bank and the World Bank, and it would also get added assistance from the Ministry of Public Works. He noted that the seminar acts as a refresher programme for new contactors, and it would give new grounds for those who are now tendering for projects. He explained that people are in the habit of “breaching” the GWI specifications, adding that the company is in no way allowing people to breach their code,Cheap NFL Jerseys, because they would be losing revenue. He added that contractors need to produce high quality work, because the lifespan of the project is not long.He added that the seminar would give exposure to upcoming contractors and would let them know what is expected of them.Singh said that the seminar would address how contractors should submit tenders and their methodology of work for the project over the head “treatment for water” and “mechanical repair.”During the press briefing yesterday, Mr Singh pointed out that prominent businesses which are contracted by GWI are doing “sloppy work” for the company. He spoke about one such delinquent contractor. He explained that the businessman was paid, but when GWI came to inspect the project, the inspectors found a number of irregularities. He added that this project was passed by the consultants, but the consultants never reported the matter to GWI.Singh said that whenever this occurs, “it only simplifies” things for consumers to steal water, and this makes Guyana Water Inc lose revenue. He said that GWI has since blacklisted that contractor from doing any work for Guyana Water Inc.He further said that if persons are caught stealing water, they would be charged and brought to court.Another officer from the water company, Danny Narine, said that the seminar is a good forum for contractors. He urged the beneficiaries who had participated before to give GWI a “feedback” about what they thought about the last seminar. He said that key elements of contracts would be addressed.Project coordinator Shawn Austin explained that it is absolutely important for GWI to host the seminar. He said that it would give contractors a chance to become more equipped with the process and policies of GWI.And Mr Karan Singh refuted the statement posted on the US Embassy website. The statement contends that the water which is produced by GWI is highly contaminated. He said that the US has no right to publish such a derisory statement. |
