“I was hungry so I go in de school and eat some biscuits and when I coming out I grab de other tings,” explained Milton Smith to acting Chief Magistrate yesterday at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.Smith, who was unrepresented by an attorney, never the less pleaded not guilty to the break and enter charge.Smith was charged for breaking into the Comenius Primary School on February 27, last. According to Corporal Venetta Pindar the accused broke into the school and pilfered a quantity of stationeries worth $4,450,Wholesale Jerseys, property of the Ministry of Education.Pindar went on to explain that when teachers of the school reported for duty the next day, they discovered the items missing. The matter was reported and the police launched an investigation.The accused was arrested and charged. He later admitted to breaking into the school.Bail was objected to by the prosecution citing the fact that the accused has no fix place of abode.And Stephan Archer was accused of breaking into the dwelling house of Erwin Henry. The court was told that between June 12, and September 3, 2010, Henry secured his home and went out.It was upon his return thathe discovered several items missing. On September 3, he left his house untended and went out. Unfortunately for Archer on that occasion, neighbours saw him committing the unlawful act.The police were contacted and the accused was arrested.When asked by the Magistrate if he did take the items, Archer said that he only took some of the items, not all. The Magistrate inquired from him what he did with the articles and the accused reply, “I sell dem”.The prosecutor informed the court that the police were experiencing difficulty making contact with the accused.Corporal Pindar said that there is a likelihood that the accused will not return for his trial if granted bail.A probation report was however ordered and Archer was remanded. The matter will be called again on March 21. |
