…Second time in almost two yearsAn East Bank Demerara family’s plans for a jolly season were thwarted after burglars gained entry into their home while they were away on Christmas Eve morning. They carted off almost everything in the home; from the groceries to presents that were under the Christmas tree. The victim was Sohodra Rampersaud of Lot 5 Section “A” Grove.Rampersaud said, yesterday, that she and her family had left just before Christmas Eve to visit some relatives in Berbice. She received a call from her brother on the Christmas Eve morning informing her that her house was broken into and burgled. She believes that the perpetrators might have gained entry through a side window since the grills were “beaten out”. Rampersaud further discovered that the bedrooms were ransacked and her belongings were missing. The window where the burglars supposedly used to gain entry into the house. One of the ransacked rooms“They (burglars) picked the window locks and it looks like they beat out the grills…they came through there…They carried away three laptops, my TV, music system, a PlayStation 4, some jewellery, like $20,000…They even carried away my gas bottle and microwave…Even to my groceries and the kids’ presents that were under the (Christmas) tree” she lamented.Tools belonging to her husband, who is an Electrical Engineer, were also stolen.“The only thing they didn’t steal was the fridge, beds and stove. Maybe because those were heavy,” she said. The woman is claiming that a security guard, who is stationed not far from the home saw six men leaving with filled bags around 1:30 am but “did not bother to raise” any alarm until around 8 am.The police were subsequently summoned by Rampersaud’s brother and an initial investigation was launched. This would not have been the first time that the Rampersauds’ home was burglarised. Back in July last year, their house was broken and a substantial number of items and money were stolen.Three men were charged but “nothing came of the case”,Cheap NFL Jerseys China, the woman said. |
