Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan remanded a Jamaican National to prison yesterday, after he was slappedAlfred Wellingtonwith charges of forgery, narcotics trafficking, and overstaying in Guyana.Alfred Wellington, 50, a carpenter, who resides locally at Friendship, East Bank Demerara, is alleged to have had 1.324 kilograms of cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking on April 2.It was further alleged that between April 18, 2011 and April 2, 2016, he failed to comply with the conditions of a permit and overstayed his time in Guyana.And finally, Wellington was accused of conspiring with a person or persons unknown to forge a driver’s licence in favour of himself to show that same was issued by the Licence Revenue Department between August 4, 2011 and April 2, 2016 at Georgetown.The Jamaican who was represented by Attorney Peter Hugh pleaded not guilty to the allegations read to him in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Attorney Hugh told the court that on April 2,Discount NFL Jerseys, the police searched his client’s home and found no drug. He added that the defendant was taken to the lower flat of the building where the police showed him a bag containing the alleged narcotic.According to the Attorney, Wellington did not accept ownership of the drug nor was the item found in his presence.The lawyer claimed that police stole a quantity of cash that was in his client’s passport during the search. In addition, Hugh told the court that his client has no pending matters or previous convictions.Police Prosecutor, Inspector Neville Jeffers objected to bail for the defendant on the narcotics charge. He told the court that the cocaine was found in the presence of the defendant, since he showed officers where the drug was located.Jeffers also pointed out that the man is a flight risk since he is not Guyanese.The prosecutor also stated that the police are in possession of Wellington’s passport.These objections were upheld by the Magistrate who refused to grant pre-trial liberty on the grounds that no special reasons were put forward in relation to the offence.These matters have been adjourned until April 25.
