…Director of Prisons among those honouring Stanleytown seniorBerbician Cecelia Ethleen King turned 100 on Monday and was honoured by the membersCecilia Ethleen Kingof her community and church in New Amsterdam.The centenarian,Thomas Vanek Jersey, who resides at Lot 49 Stanleytown,Scott Hartnell Jersey, was escorted from her home to the Philadelphia Seventh-Day Adventist Church by Director of Prisons Dale Erskine and a Retired Colonel of the Guyana Defence Force, in fine style.A service of thanksgiving punctuated with reading of scripture, musical renditions, prayers, songs and special congratulatory words then began.The church was filled with well-wishers including Guyana Teachers’ Union President Colin Bynoe and other officials who shared the day with Guyana’s newest centenarian.“I get to know her through the church. She was born on January 9, 1912. She is a very jovial person, who can cook and still does stuff for herself. Her memory is still intact. She may be a bit physically weak, but she can maneuver herself,Patrick Sharp Jersey,” said Peggy Douglas, who has been caring for Mrs King since 1995.“She cooks her soup herself, and washes, cooks, she bathes herself too”. ‘She is very tidy. She reads the Bible by herself, no glasses…she interacts and she would tell you that things vastly changed from her time to now.”Douglas stated that the centenarian would dial persons on the phone to speak to them,Shayne Gostisbehere Team North America Jersey, “for 100 years,Pierre Turgeon Jersey, she is extremely remarkable and fun to be around”. Douglas, from what she knows, stated that King may have had a few children but none are around at this time, even though “she cared for three generations”.She was married to Albert King, who passed away a few years ago.
