Stallholders are demanding urgent improvements to the Stabroek Market’s river defence asStalls affected by constant floodingwell as the market’s infrastructure, since their businesses are constantly flooded during high tide. Stall holders are renovating their structures to meet Council’s design of having stalls above ground level with double-decker arrangement.However, some stallholders who renovated their stalls to the new specification are still being affected. In some cases, either the consumer is unable to access the stalls owing to flooded corridors or the water rises and flows into the stalls.Griffith said that faulty hydrants managing the flow of water also contributed to the facility being flooded in the pass.However, this is being addressed. |
