Drama unfolded at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts yesterday following a court hearing for five teenagers charged with the murder of retired professor Pairadeau Mars.The accused hid their faces as police escorted them to the prison van after a court hearing.Relatives of the accused behaved in a disorderly manner and started wailing loudly when they were informed that the teenagers were remanded to prison.There were heated exchange of words and scuffles between relatives which resulted in police officers ordering them to exit the court compound.The teenagers, who ranged from ages 14 to 18 years, were jointly charged. The accused hid their faces with clothing to conceal their identities while entering and leaving the compound.They were not required to enter pleas after the allegation was read to them by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan.Court proceedings for this matter were held in- camera due to the fact that juveniles were indicted.Murdered professor: Pairadeau MarsAccording to reports, Mr. Mars, a remigrant from the United States of America, was found slumped in a chair in the study room of his Lot 395 Bissessar Street, Prashad Nagar home, last Thursday.The hands and feet of the 75-year-old man were bound together with duct-tape, while duct-tape was also wrapped around his mouth. It was reported that the teenagers confessed to killing Mars and also admitted to robbing him.Kaieteur News understands that a 17-year-old female accused was allegedly known to the professor since she would usually visit his home. The teenage girl reportedly told police that she contacted her 16-year-old boyfriend and told him that they could have robbed the pensioner since he was home alone.Professor Mars studied History at the University of Guyana.
