A murder accused who had eluded police for over a year was yesterday remanded by the Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson. The accused, Elan Azore called ‘Fugie’ of Melanie Damishana Housing Scheme,  had inflicted a severe beating on the victim, leaving him to die in an abandoned house.It is alleged that between August 6 and August 7, 2008 Azore murdered Dennis Richards. Azore was unrepresented and was not required to plead to the indictable charge. He declined to say anything when invited by the magistrate.The Magistrate then remanded him and transferred the matter to the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court where Azore is expected to appear on January 21, 2010.Kaieteur News understands that Azore called the victim from his home and severely beat on him before leaving him to die in an abandoned house in the Melanie Damishana Squatting Area.The victim was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he subsequently died.Since then Azore managed to avoid being captured despite several police raids on his suspected hideouts and even escaped a well-planned joint services operations.His children were even detained by the authorities at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport when they attempted to leave Guyana for Trinidad.Police sources indicated that Azore had fled the jurisdiction but recently returned.
