For weeks the lights installed on the East Bank Demerara Highway,Niklas Hjalmarsson Jersey, particularly in the communities of Farm and Covent Garden,Jason Spezza Jersey, have not been lit to provide improved visibility for both drivers and pedestrians.In an effort to ascertain what is the cause of the issue Kaieteur News spoke to Leon Goring,Graham Knott Jersey, Chief Engineer at BK International who was awarded the contract to install the lights.Goring said that the company is currently in the process of acquiring two poles to replace a pair that was damaged as a result of separate vehicular accidents. He said that in both instances a truck had collided with the metal poles causing irreparable damage.In addition to the new poles,Jake Allen Jersey, Goring said that the company is procuring the requisite arms to be attached to the poles so that new lights can be installed. According to him, due to the accidents,Jack Johnson Jersey, the electrical circuit was disrupted leading to a sectional shutdown.When asked how soon motorists can expect the lights to be up and working,Patrick Sharp Jersey, he said that BK International is working hard on the issue. Miller Team North America Jersey, the four-lane stretch of road in that area has been proving to be quite problematic.O’Brien said that the lights have not been fully commissioned and as such the Ministry can still move to use the warranty to have any defect remedied. He said that as of last week he engaged the contractor about the issue and was informed that the matter also has the attention of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL). |
