Two men accused of thieving millions worth in gold jewellery were yesterday arraigned in a city court.Particulars of the charge alleged that on August 7, at Albouystown Travis Fernandes, 27, of Lot 37 J Duncan Street, and Jamal Jacobs, 24, of Lot 17 J Section ‘K’ Campbellville,Air Max Scontate Donne, stole a quantity of jewellery, property of Christopher Da Silva.The court heard that they stole two gold chains with pendants valued $1.8M, eight gold rings valued $1.6M, all totaling $3.4 M.Fernandes and Jacobs denied the allegation before Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan and were remanded until August 20.Fernandes’ Attorney, Mark Conway during his bail application, asked for his client to be released on a reasonable bail. He also pointed out that Fernandes was in custody over 72 hours and his client’s fingerprints were not taken.Further the attorney argued that the items were not found in his client’s possession neither at his home.Meanwhile, Jacobs who was unrepresented, provided the court with his basic information when requested to do so by the Magistrate.Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones objected to bail citing the seriousness and gravity of the offence. He also informed the court that eyewitnesses saw both defendants coming out of the house. Jones pointed out that the items were not recovered. |
