Seventy-one (71) villagers of Sand Creek recently graduated from European Union (EU)’s capacity building programme aimed at bolstering the community by increasing the scope of their activities and affording villagers the opportunity to branch off into other areas of trade.Head of Delegation Ambassador Robert Kopecký and the Vice Chancellor of University of Guyana Professor Jacob Opadeyi with some of the graduates.The programme,Baltimore Orioles Yovani Gallardo Jersey, facilitated by the University of Guyana’s Institute for Distance and Continuing Education (IDCE),Detroit Tigers Lance Parrish Jersey, sought to enhance the development of the community by improving the levels of competence and education of its diverse populace.It encompassed guidance to village captains in key areas of leadership and management; made provisions for women to involve themselves in courses which will enhance their abilities such as sewing; and provided training for both men and women in areas of trade such as construction management,Boston Red Sox Blake Swihart Jersey, farming and mining. A secondary school has also been constructed as part of the project and is being serviced by English and Scottish volunteer teachers.Head of the Delegation of the EU to Guyana,Washington Nationals Jayson Werth Jersey, Ambassador Robert Kopecký,Detroit Tigers Jordan Zimmermann Jersey, at the graduation ceremony held last Thursday,Detroit Tigers Kirk Gibson Jersey, noted that the large number of graduates was a testament of the programme’s success. The Ambassador also took the opportunity to inspect other EU-funded projects in the Lethem area. He expressed satisfaction at the operations of the Lethem Public Library and Resource Centre,Texas Rangers Shin-Soo Choo Jersey, while identifying areas in which the St. Ignatius Secondary School Poultry Production Unit could heighten its output so as to serve the educational purposes related to the secondary school and produce for the local market. |
