New US Ambassador to Guyana: D. Brent HardtThe new US Ambassador to Guyana,Diego Polenta Uruguay Jersey, D. Brent Hardt, arrived in Guyana on Thursday after having been confirmed by the Senate in June.His arrival would mean that Guyana would have a resident ambassador after a two-year hiatus.D.Brent Hardt with his wife Saskia and US President Barack Obama.He was sworn in as Ambassador to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on August,19, 2011.According to a release from the local US Embassy in Georgetown,Juan Carlos Valenzuela Mexico Jersey, Ambassador Hardt is a career Senior Foreign Service Officer with extensive service in the Western Hemisphere and Europe.The new ambassador will arrive at a time when Guyana is still digesting the now infamous ‘WikiLeaks’ embassy cables which have been taking the world by storm.The cables would spell out the embassy’s thoughts, and in cases, the Ambassador’s feelings of particular politicians and situations. Some of the candid expressions, contained in the documents which in the first instance should never have seen the light of day much less the eyes of the world, have proven to be an embarrassment both to Governments and to the US authorities.Prior to his nomination,Jorge Torres Nilo Mexico Jersey, Mr Hardt served as Chargé d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean from January 2009 to June 2011.He also served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Chargé d’Affaires, at U.S. Embassy in Nassau, the Bahamas from 2005-2008 and at the U.S. Embassy to the Holy See in Rome from 2002 to 2005.Ambassador Hardt joined the United States Foreign Service in 1988, and served as a Consular Officer in Bridgetown, Barbados from 1988-89,Cristopher Toselli Chile Jersey, Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Berlin from 1990 to 1992, and Political-Military Officer at the U.S. Embassy in The Hague from 1993-96, where he also served as an exchange diplomat in the Netherlands Ministry of Foreign Affairs.From 1996 to 2000, he returned to the U.S. Embassy in the Eastern Caribbean as Political-Economic Section Chief and Acting Deputy Chief of Mission.During this time,Custom Mexico Jersey, he helped develop the 1997 Caribbean-U.S. Summit agenda and subsequently worked to implement Summit commitments with countries in the Eastern Caribbean.From 2000-2002, he served as Team Leader for NATO Policy in the Office of European Political and Security Affairs in the Department of State,Blank Chile Jersey, where he was responsible for NATO enlargement, European Security and Defense Policy issues, NATO-Russia, and NATO-Ukraine relations.Ambassador Hardt has received various Department of State awards, including the Director General’s Award for Reporting, five Superior Honor Awards, and two Meritorious Honor Awards.  He earned a Bachelor’s degree in History from Yale University,Pa Konate Sweden Jersey, and Master’s and Doctorate degrees from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.  He has published numerous articles on U.S. foreign policy, and speaks Italian,Patrik Carlgren Sweden Jersey, Dutch,Mikael Ishak Sweden Jersey, German and French.The Ambassador is married.
