With 50 days to go before the grand opening of Carifesta X in Guyana, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Dr. Frank Anthony, is encouraging all Guyanese to start feeling the ‘Carifesta fever.’Yesterday, the minister distributed posters, postcards, T-shirts and Guyana flags as part of the heightening awareness of the activity.“I hope the spirit of Carifesta is felt as persons begin to see the posters and wear the T-shirts,” he said.The postcards feature various buildings and scenes from across the country, while the T-shirts and the posters showcase the Carifesta Logo.Yesterday, too, the gear was handed over to the City Council and the Festival City Planning Committee.While the distribution of the items is a simple exercise, Dr. Anthony said, it is at the same time symbolic.Deputy Mayor Robert Williams said that the municipality continues to work closely with the communities to enhance the appearance as well as the infrastructural works.He said that there is a special interest in supporting the Planning Committee of Festival City.At present, he said, there is ongoing examination of over 40 venues around the city. These venues will be used to host Carifesta events.Several venues have been identified for Carifesta activities, among them Umana Yana, the National Cultural Centre, the Theatre Guild, the National Conference Centre, the National Park, the National Exhibition Site, the Guyana National Stadium at Providence, the various museums, the National Library, Castellani House, the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, the National Gymnasium, the University of Guyana,Jerseys NFL Wholesale China Online, the Independence Park, the Botanical Gardens, and the Seawall bandstands, among others.In Festival City, plaques bearing the names of various CARICOM countries are being erected at each corner.
