Disgruntled employees attached to the Rose Hall sugar estate congregated in front of the Bank of Nova Scotia yesterday in the area and protested what they deemed as ‘eye-pass’ from the sugar company.The workers had spent much of the afternoon awaiting the arrival of their weekly wages.According to the workers, their monies had been promised by 13:30hrs. After this did not happen,Wholesale Jerseys, the estate officials announced that 14:30hrs would be the new time of arrival of their wages.Some workers were heard uttering expletives at the sugar entity and the bank as well.Speaking with an employee of the bank, this publication learnt that the bank had no control over when the monies would have arrived.One of the irate workers stated that this would be a norm each week as they would be made towait, sometimes up to 18:30hrs, for their wages at the bank. Many employees also claimed that they were asked to leave the bank and wait outside for their monies.“GuySuCo a take advantage of people,” one employee said. “Them take we for small children to get we waiting here whole day,” another remarked.“The system is poor,” said another.Kaieteur News understands that some 200 employees were affected yesterday by the delay of payment of wages and salaries.(Leon Suseran) |
