(By Alex Wayne)The 2009 Miss Guyana Universe Pageant hosted at the National Cultural Center on Saturday night, appeared to be well planned and orchestrated, minus a few minor glitches.While the entire venture depicted a kaleidoscope of ‘colour creativity’, elegance and intense glamour were among the other strong points at the event.Fifteen super-sizzling ladies battled for supremacy and many unleashed their ‘pageant fire’. But in the end, it was the pretty, sophisticated and provocative Jenelle Cox who blazed a scorching trail to whisk away the crown and title from 14 other contestants.In the first runner-up spot was Rachael Bakker, followed by Lecrisha Rambalack, Janella Lewis and Nandani Seecharan who occupied the second, third and fourth runner-up spots respectively. She made way for Janella Lewis whose ‘bronze strapless dream’ was the envy of every other woman at the venue. While the corseted back of the gown did wonders for her figure, it flowed away from her hips in glistening frothy bubbles that was a sight to see. Divya Sieudarsan’s tight fitting blue attire exposed her entire back and also featured a plunging neckline. Cianna Persaud wore a flowing gown with a wide skirt that featured clashing tropical shades and highlights. The strapless creation was the perfect wear to evoke romance at any given forum.Rachael Bakker was a super sexy sensation in a white gown that flowed gloriously to her ankles. With what appeared to be bronze shell covering her breasts, the piece also featured bronze chains to the back which attached the bodice to the skirt. Her matching gloves were the perfect finish to the outfit she so wondrously displayed.Jenelle Cox’s gown was a gorgeous black ensemble with silver highlights that further accentuated her good looks. She made good use of the daring slit to the left thigh and stormed the stage much to the delight of patrons.The Intelligence Segment offered much humour as some of the contestants ‘messed up’ their questions.To the question, ‘What is the role of a woman in today’s society?’, Seecharran fumbled and totally strayed from the topic, while Bakker, stuttered and kept repeating parts of her answer over and over again.
