The man who punched a woman in the face at the General Council of People’s National Congress Sophia, on Sunday was yesterday granted his pre trial liberty when he appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.The man Sherwin Benjamin 29,Wholesale Authentic Jerseys Outlet, of 218 Pike Street Campbellville was accused of unlawfully and maliciously assaulting Marlene Nelson on May 23.He pleaded not guilty. He is being represented by attorney at law Vic Puran.Puran said that his client retaliated after Nelson spat in his face but that he offered to compensate the woman.Nelson, who was present in court, said that she was punched in the head. The woman said after she was punched Benjamin ran into a waiting car.This newspaper was told that participants of the party’s General Council were gearing to vote when there was a flurry of heckling.During the heckling the woman reportedly hurled an unsavoury remark towards a doctor who is also a close supporter of Dr Richard Van West Charles.This reportedly angered Benjamin who punched the woman.Benjamin was placed on $50,000 bail and is expected to make another court appearance on June 7. |
