The co-accused in a house lot scam was yesterday jailed for three years by Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.Prem Persaud had spent over a month in hospital after he had ingested a poisonous substance when he was told that he would have been charged for fraud.Persaud yesterday told the court that his sister had not sent the money for him,cheap nfl jerseys, and thus he was upholding his guilty plea. The prosecutor told the court that in passing judgment the court must take into consideration that Persaud was not a first time offender.The prosecutor said that Persaud was charged only last year in connection with another fraud. Persaud was jointly charged with Sunita Singh on a charge of obtaining money by false pretence.He had earlier admitted that he and Singh between December 7 last year and January 9, 2010 with intent to defraud, obtained $820,000 from Chaitram Baneswar by falsely pretending that they were in a position to obtain a house lot for him. Singh, his co-accused, is serving a two year sentence after she too pleaded guilty.Persaud had told the court that he collected $600,000 from Baneswar and had given the money to Singh, since she assured him that she could get a house lot for Baneswar. He told the court that after some time and with no progress being made, he went to look for Singh but couldn’t find her.  He noted that he drank the poison some time before Singh was finally located and emphasised that he had only taken $200,000 from the money.
